Inspire me!

A bit of inspiration for today. I would happily move in this house in a heartbeat!! It's colourful but still has a scandi feel to it. I love the bedroom, A and I have been talking about making our own tufted headboard following this tutorial from Little Green Notebook. I hope your enjoying your weekend. Z and E can't wait for Christmas to come, I finishes work for the year and it is just so nice so have lazy days and loads of mulled wine:)

Friday I'm In Love - Pendant Lights

A beautiful light makes such a big difference to a room. I know it sounds crazy but when we move flats, we take our lights with us and refit them in the new places. It really helps make the place feel ours and instantly we know we are home. Simple but effective!

Kids Bedroom

Today's post is both about my love for Instagram and kids bedrooms. There are so many amazing instagramers out there that inspire me on a daily basis, especially when it comes to kiddies stuff. I have discovered so many new small shops through instagram, that sell quality products that are original and quirky. Below are some of my favourite people I follow on IG.  They also happen to have awesome ideas when it comes to making kids bedrooms fun and interesting.

I do love a monochrome scheme but what I really like about the set up below is the injection of colour here and there, it just makes that lamp pop. It looks really fresh and fun and is the perfect set for studying.

Friday I'm in Love - White Floors

Today's Friday I'm in Love is all about white floors. I have always admired interiors with white floors but never felt 'brave' enough to dare painting my floorboards white . When we moved in this flat, we knew straight away some of the floors would be an issue. I am very allergic to dust etc and for me carpet is a nightmare, no matter how many times you clean it, it just has years of dust and various things deep inside the fiber of the carpet...ugh. I start to sneeze just thinking about it. One of the bigger room at the front had electric blue carpet that had been laid in 1992 ( I found the receipt when I lifted it up). I was badly stained and just looked horrible. So we decided to have a look at what was underneath. There were floorboards but they weren't beautiful oak or anything like that. They were just new thick rough wood board that had been put in instead of the old boards when the central heating system was installed. So sanding them was out of the questions as it would have looked horrible. So we decided to fill in the bigger gaps and paint the floors white. And oh my I love it. It is much easier to maintain than carpets; a quick hoover and mop and we are good to go! It brightens up the room and bounces the light around. I love them...Only downside is now that my floors are nice and white I realised the walls could really do with a coat of paint and so does the woodwork...so we still have a room in progress. But now I have reached that milestone and I am in the white floor club (whoohoo!) I feel like every floor in the house could do with this treatment!! Allen, we have a long road ahead of us:) Anyhow to give you a bit of inspiration I have gathered all my favourite white floorboard interiors. What do you think? Are you ready to take the plunge?

Elliott's Bedroom Makeover

When we moved in Elliott's room looked very brown: brown curtains, brown carpet, brown and beige wallpaper. This was topped with a lovely sink, just in case you know you fancied washing your hands.
The wallpaper was pretty horrific and had to go straight away. It was one of those thick wallpapers that has a honeycomb texture to it as well as a weird brown pattern.  I got the keys at 9:30 and by 10 I was already peeling off the paper. What is great about papers as thick as these is that you usually have two layers, the first one goes easily and then you are left with a second layer that act as lining paper, perfect for painting if it is stuck properly of course. And that's exactly what I did, paint it. It turned out great and at least the carpet wasn't looking as bad then. It was nice to have a blank canvas to work with.

Elliott needed some storage space for his ever growing toy collection so we invested in some cupboard. Most of his toys are now easily accessible but tucked away behind when his room is tidied.

Friday I'm In Love - bathrooms

This post was going to be about metro tiles then hexagonal tiles and now it's just a general bathroom one, yep that's just how I roll:)
I am currently obsessing with bathrooms and I know it is purely because ours is in dire need of a makeover. It is so vile I don't even think I will ever post before photos, I'll just grow straight to after. It has poor ventilation so it's getting quite moldy...yuk! The paint is peeling off and the grouting is horrendous. Basically it's the last place you would go if you want to get clean! But all that would be fine and easily fixed if the layout wasn't just the most bizarre thing I have ever encountered. Whoever I had the idea must have lived on another planet. They have created a sort of airlock chamber in the middle of the room...really bizarre. And this is why this week I am celebrating all things shiny and clean and polished.
So feast your eyes on the photos below.

Favourite Toddler books

Back in May 2013 I did my first post about kids' books, i might have mentioned at the time that it was going to be a weekly post...hummm well that went well didn't it? Anyhow here's my second post and this time I am looking at toddler books that we have loved reading. Elliott is now four and half and he still loves all of these books. Every night we have a routine going one before bed and having two books read is part of it. I love that moment when you snuggle up and look at beautifully illustrated stories.

1. Mr Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown. This book has a nice contrast of grey pages when Mr Tiger is expected by society to behave a certain way and bold colourful pages when he breks free from what's expected. The illustration is beautiful, bright and colourful. The story shows that a little individuality is exactly what people need to be happy.

2. Little Mouse by Alison  Murray. Beautifully illustrated book depicting the different moods of a little girl, she might stomp like an elephant or she will always be her mummy's little mouse. Very sweet.

3. For Just One Day by Laura Leck and Marc Boutavant. Wouldn't it be a fun to be a snake for just one day? This bright and colourful book does just that. I love the bold colours of this book. It has a lovely retro feel to it.

4. Who's Like Me? by Nicola Davies. Beautifully illustrated again by Marc Boutavant. Elliott loves animals and this book teaches him about their different habitats. It has flap so that the child gets involved. Love love love this book. It also became a staple present for  birthdays as it is just such a nice book.

5. Hey Presto! by Nadia Shireen. A very sweet and funny book about friendship and how fragile it can be when success is involved!

Here is my shortlist for this time but there are many many more books that we love!

PS: I know I missed my Friday I'm In Love post this week, it will be back next week:)
